HistoryBeginnings Founded in November 1919, the 'Isle of Wight Natural History Society' followed the publication of Morey's 1909 'Guide to the Natural History of the Isle of Wight'. This omnibus volume covered a broad range of topics, with different groups contributed by various experts, and its managing editor Frank Morey became a mainstay of the Society's early days, serving as both honorary secretary and editor. In 1926, again largely through the interest of Morey, the Society added 'and Archaeological' to its title. The emphasis on field work that motivated members during the early years has continued to this day.
